About GoodCode

Built by practitioners, not account managers.

GoodCode was founded by engineers who spent careers inside cybersecurity companies — building the same products our clients build today. We started this agency because we knew the industry deserved better than generic design shops learning security on the job.

How we got here

Austin McDaniel spent over a decade building security products from the inside — as an engineer at Google, Mastercard, RSA, and the Department of Defense, then as a founding engineer at Swimlane, a software architect at Sevco Security and Sumo Logic, and co-founder of CRFT, later acquired by Flashpoint. He holds four cybersecurity patents. By 2022, after watching security companies consistently struggle to find design and engineering partners who actually understood the domain, he launched GoodCode to solve the problem directly.

The idea was simple: build an agency staffed by people who've shipped security products, not people learning what a SOC analyst does from a requirements doc. From the start, GoodCode worked exclusively with cybersecurity and enterprise technology companies — building products for threat intelligence platforms, SOAR tools, attack surface management, XDR, and identity security. The specialization wasn't a marketing angle. It was the whole point.

Two years in, Carrington McDaniel joined as COO to build out the operational side of the business — sprint delivery, team growth, client relationships, and the business infrastructure that lets the design and engineering team focus on craft. As brothers, Austin and Carrington bring a level of trust and directness to the leadership that's hard to manufacture. No politics, no bureaucracy — just a shared standard for the work.

Today GoodCode is a senior team of designers and engineers who've collectively shipped over 70 security products. We run on focused sprints, we maintain a portfolio of open source libraries used by thousands of developers, and we've been recognized by Cyber Defense Magazine as one of the most innovative cybersecurity engineering solutions in the industry. We're small by design — because the companies we work with don't need a 200-person agency. They need a team that's already fluent in their world.

The team

Senior practitioners, not junior rotations. The people who scope your project are the same people who design and build it.

Austin McDaniel

CEO & Founder

Former Google, Mastercard, and DoD engineer. 4 cybersecurity patents. Built CRFT (acquired by Flashpoint). Runs on JavaScript and strong opinions.

Carrington McDaniel

COO

Runs the operation — sprints, clients, team, and everything that keeps the work moving. Joined Austin two years in to scale what was already working.

Kyle Chaplin

Senior Designer & Developer

Bridges the gap between design and code. Builds in Framer, ships in React, and doesn't believe in designs that can't be implemented.

Erin Bassity

Senior Designer

Specializes in complex data visualization and security workflow design. Makes dense information feel navigable.

Darina Liakh

Senior Designer

Product design with a systems mindset. Builds design systems that hold up across dozens of features and edge cases.

Kateryna Piddubna

Project Manager

Keeps sprints on track and clients informed. The operational backbone between the team and every deliverable.
